Another side of Jewells
In 2007, I entered the Esthetics program at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. I knew the program entailed skin care techniques, anatomy & physiology, sanitation, salon management and such. What I didn't know is how deeply in love I would fall for the industry itself with a high concentration in makeup application. It all started when I won 1st place in our makeup competition doing makeup on a male. That moment I knew I had entered a world I couldn't deny. My second calling in life.
After walking across the stage in 2008, I knew I would find a job in beauty industry in no time. What a sad reality it was to find no one willing to give me a chance due to not having any retail beauty experience. I was crushed. Not to mention traveling to two other states for job interviews.
That's when it hit me. I decided to take matters into my own hands. So I started perusing online forums, wedding agencies, event planners, social network sites, and classified ads in search of women who needed their makeup done for weddings or other events. Slowly but surely, I started booking clients for their weddings. Since I always wanted to open my own business and with no one willing to hire me, I figured it no better time to open up shop than right now.
